How can we locate that mountain for a feast we are invited?

The Lord of hosts says that he will make for all peoples, a feast of fat things, a feast of choice wines - of fat things full of marrow, of choice wines well refined on the mountain he pointed at. The venue of the feast on that mountain. Which of the mountains then? How can we locate that mountain because aside the feast, other things will happen there? According to the Lord of hosts, he will destroy the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spreading over all nations. These covering and veils are obstacles to seeing the fat things full of marrow and the choice wines well refined. He further promises to swallow up death for ever and to wipe away every tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth.

This mountain is deed a place worth of going. There is a saying that 'experience is the best teacher.' That mountain can be understood to mean "the kingdom of heaven" which Jesus Christ talks of in Matt. 22: 1-14. It is the Kingdom of heaven" where there are many rooms awaiting our arrival. It is the kingdom where we are all invited as citizens of heaven to a feast.  For us to get there, we need to experience the glimpse of that kingdom which Jesus Christ prays for it to come here on earth by becoming a member through baptism.  In the Lord's prayer, he says "thy kingdom come". That Kingdom has begun here on earth. And for us Christians and in particular Catholics, it is the pilgrim Church founded by Jesus Christ. This pilgrim Church will definitely unite with the triumphant Church, that is the kingdom of heaven, at the last day.

Here on earth, we have the Church as a sign, instrument, and foretaste of the kingdom of heaven. This description of the role of the church starts from a belief that the kingdom of heaven is something that is coming ultimately in the future in the new heaven and new earth, but that God is also bringing glimpses of His Kingdom into this world in the here and now.

The Church serves as a sign of the kingdom of heaven as she points people to the good news of the gospel. The news of the kingdom of heaven  is good because "we have a God who is satisfied, and not because of anything we have done or can do to fulfill an obligation to Him", not because of our praises since "our praises add nothing to his greatness" but because He became one of us and paid the price himself through His own life, suffering, death, and resurrection." That is good news indeed!

The Church also functions as an instrument bringing God’s Kingdom in this world through acts of love, kindness, and justice. The Church is the voice of the voiceless. The Church as an instrument does what her founder, Jesus Christ has commanded her to do: "Go into all the world and proclaims the good news to all creatures", Mk.16:15.

Another way the Church helps to bring the kingdom of heaven in the here and now is as a foretaste. The brings great kingdom purpose to every part of our lives. The Church is a foretaste of the kingdom of heaven when she celebrates the Eucharist which is "a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a paschal banquet, in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us," CCC271.

Unfortunately, many people have many excuses not to attend this feast. Other who manage to attend the feast have many excuses too not to partake in the Eucharistic meal. Some of the excuses are enumerated in the same Gospel of Matthew 22: 1-14. They are: farming engagement, business engagement/schedules. Others engage in seizing the messengers, treating them shamefully and murdering them. These excuses are still our excuses today of not getting connected to the kingdom of heaven. The engagement in seizing the messengers, treating them shamefully and murdering them has grown worse in our society today. It has given birth to many coverings and veils: devaluation of the values of the kingdom of heaven here on earth, profaning of the sacred things, disrespect to the Gospel message, kidnapping and intimidation of the children of God, shooting the worshippers, financial sacrifices and endless prayers to gods who seem to always require more, service to gods with no assurance that anything they do is enough. All of the above and other related vices have put us into not being in the state of grace to either attend the feast or partake in the Eucharistic meal even if we attend.

Like St. Paul, we can do all things in him who strengthens us. In this world of many troubles, we must learn the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and want, discernment between good and bad.

Using the framework for how the Church serves the coming of God’s Kingdom in the world around us should give us great hope and joy in the midst of very real difficulty and the darkness that we see and experience. It reminds us that nothing is without purpose, and that purpose is about more than just our circumstances or those of the people around us.

May God supply every need of ours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. To God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.  Happy Sunday. I trust you and I love you all.
